Here are my projects.  Everything I used is from Stampin’ Up!

It’s the peak of summer.  Time for fireflies.  I loved those hot, humid nights, growing up, when lightning bugs lit up the grasses in the backyard.  I would catch a few in a mason jar and watch their abdomens magically light up.  As soon as I saw the Jars of Love stamp set and Everyday Jars Framelits Dies, I knew I’d be making this card and project.

I used Night of Navy, Daffodil Delight and Thick Whisper White card stock.  This is a typical side fold card, with a daffodil base, a navy layer, another daffodil layer and topped with a navy strip representing the evening sky that I punched with the Confetti Star Border Punch.

I stamped the fireflies, jar, lid and sentiment in Basic Gray Archival ink.  The coordinating dies and Big Shot made this card very easy.  I used Crushed Curry ink for the fireflies stamped as a background.  A Daffodil marker colors in the abdomen of the fireflies.  I used the Classic Label Punch for the sentiment.  Linen Thread is wrapped around the neck of the jar.20160712_181418_wm

The inside of the card has a smaller jar and a few escaped fireflies.  I used a sponge dauber and Daffodil Delight ink and pressed a glow around the butt of the little lightning bugs.

I used this card in my class last week.  My 6 year old grandson, Miles, stopped by earlier that day, saw the tables all set up and announced he was going to make a card for his Auntie Steph.  (Good thing I had and extra kit!)  Miles loves using the big shot.  I think he did a mighty fine job on this card!!!

What goes better with fireflies than a firefly luminary???  .

The Night of Navy cardstock is 10 1/2″ x 8″.  I scored at 2 1/2″, 5″, 7 1/2″ and 10″.on the long edge.  On the short edge, score at 2 1/2″.    I punched a top star border with the Confetti Star Border Punch.  (When the luminary was complete, I decided to put in a strip of Daffodil cardstock to back the stars.)

Using the Big Shot and Everyday Jars Framelits, I cut a tall mason jar opening in each side.  I cut 4 pieces (4″ x 2 1/4″) of Vellum Cardstock and stamped a tall mason jar in Stazon Black ink   I also stamped fireflies in Stazon.  On the reverse side of the stamped image, I added the daffodil marker and “butt glow” with a dauber.  I used glue dots to adhere the vellum behind the cutouts (Stazon Ink side to the outside).  A few random die cut lightning bugs add a pop of wow!  I wrapped a length of linen thread around the entire luminary a few times, then added a linen thread bow to each jar.  Pop in a tea light and you are good to go!

I hope you enjoyed my post …. now for prizes.  Please comment on each blog in the hop, using #SFJulyHop along with your comment by midnight on July 24th.  (Please note … the prizes pictured are NOT what the winner will receive.)  The winner will receive a prize from each of the bloggers in this hop!

  5. #SFJulyHop Love the luminary. Here in Missouri, lightening bugs are everywhere. This just may bring kids to catch them and set them free again!
